Operation Restoration CDC serves as the lead agency for the Upstate Stand Down. The first annual Stand Down was held on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the Spartanburg Expo Center adjacent to Restoration Church. The purpose and mission of the 2012 Upstate Stand Down was (1) to identify all Veterans in need, to include homeless Veterans, Veterans at risk for homelessness, and their families, in a four county catchment area (Spartanburg, Cherokee, Union, and Greenville counties), and (2) to provide a vast array of needed services, information, items and goods, in an atmosphere of caring, dignity, and respect. The primary goal of Upstate Stand Down is to help our beloved Veterans reintegrate back into the community with a renewed sense of hope for the future.
The 2012 Upstate Stand Down, led by a diverse community wide steering committee, exceeded our expectations on every level. On this special day, 185 Veterans in need were served in addition to 30 family members, totaling 215 participants.
Lives were changed and hope was renewed for so many on Upstate Stand Down day because of enormous community support, volunteers, and partnerships. We hope YOU will join us in the 2013 Upstate Stand Down and this special and unique opportunity "to serve those who have served."
